Dissed by the Mayor

I attended the Richmond City Council meeting on Monday night, Nov. 14, to support the Richmond Tea Party in its efforts to speak out against the city’s unfair treatment under the law.

I proceeded to witness one of the most disrespectful actions I have ever seen by any elected official. It was the first time I ever attended one of these City Council meetings and I, along with the vast majority of the Tea Party members and the Richmond Occupiers, were appalled when citizen time was finally called. Just as the first citizen speaker made his way to the lectern, Mayor Dwight Jones got up and walked out the side door and did not return to hear any of the citizen speakers.

The Tea Party members and Occupiers sat for close to three hours, following all the rules of the council, watching and listening to the council’s agenda, all for their opportunity to speak for three minutes each. To have the mayor quickly exit stage left was so disrespectful and unbecoming of a public official, to say the least. With that type of leadership (or lack thereof), it’s no wonder the city of Richmond is such a mess!

As a Richmond taxpayer I am very upset with City Mayor Dwight Jones. We now have evidence that he spent well over $7,000 of taxpayer funds in support services for the Richmond Occupiers but refuses to refund the law-abiding Richmond Tea Party for its expenses related to rallies, expenses which are close to $10,000.

Don’t believe it, then simply go to VaRight.com, where you can view the invoices related to the support services Mayor Jones provided for the Occupiers. Oh, and by the way, I have a strong suspicion that there is going to be more evidence to come in regards to the mayor picking winners and losers with the use of taxpayers funds. Stay tuned!
