Diamond Heist at Cary Street Café

Saturday, Aug 9, 2 p.m.

Neil Diamond doesn’t get the respect he deserves. Sure, he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1984 and into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011. But despite the accolades and that he’s one of the world’s best-selling singers and songwriters of all time (only Barbra Streisand and Elton John have sold more records, according to Billboard), he’s dismissed by some as the king of the superfluous. I disagree — and so does Diamond Heist, the Richmond tongue-in-check Neil Diamond tribute act playing Saturday, Aug. 9, at Cary Street Café. The group can’t recreate the dizzying heights achieved by the man, the myth, the legend, but it plays Diamond’s hits and obscurities with a sing-a-long, lighthearted passion that’s difficult to resist. The good times begin at 2 p.m. Free. carystreetcafe.com.
