Re: “Richmond's Aural History: The 1980s

I remember seeing Black Flag with the Meat Puppets opening for them. I believe it was Hard Times. The bass player for the Meat Puppets was naked except for his shoes. There was some dickhead with a VHS camera on a tripod filming the show, yelling at us and pushing us away from hitting the tripod as we were "thrashing." We all assumed he was with the band and couldn't believe Black Flag could be such dicks. Then, when they finished playing, Henry Rollinns asked the dude if he could see the tape for a second. The dude ejected it and gave it to Henry, who started pulling the tape out of the cassette, telling him to get permission first! We all cheered, stomping on the loose tape. Of course, this was immediately following 3 straight nights of the Grateful Dead at the Hampton Coliseum, so memory is a little fuzzy!
