COMMENTS: Readers Weigh in On Mayor Jones

Re: "Back to Basics,": I voted for Jones, but I am dismayed by how much he has folded into the good ol' boy, Richmond Renaissance-Venture Richmond oligarchy. We need real economic development, such as improved transportation and improved services, not more dubious tourist schemes that primarily benefit developers and corporate entities. … Residents don't need a baseball stadium, they need working plumbing in city libraries. — Posted by Anonymous, Oct. 29 at 5:59 p.m.

I think Mayor Jones is on the right track. He has been able to bring in businesses and development throughout Richmond. His ability to reach out to the business community will renew their interests in developing all areas of the city. He is using a system of interweaving the various people with the ability to do things with those who are unable to do things financially. Mixed income communities will provide networking and relationships among these groups of people. — Posted by ForRespect, Oct. 30 at 11:29 a.m.

It is a shame it has taken Jones so long to realize he got it wrong (while on the school board) when he could have listened to those with better mental abilities and avoided the need to apologize 20 years later. … Then again, history might not repeat itself if Jones would just listen to the public and realize Shockoe is the last place one should put a baseball stadium. … Jones needs to pay attention this time or his legacy will be that of a little, pompous, arrogant man who just did not know what he did not know. — Posted by Len Swipes, Nov. 2 at 10:53 a.m.
