Chief Fuller's Arrest "Shocks" VCU

Chief of VCU Police soliciting sex with a 14-year-old? "I'm just stunned," says source.

VCU Police Chief Willie Fuller was arrested Wednesday by Chesterfield Police and charged with soliciting sex with a 14-year-old girl.

Fuller is charged with “use of a communications device to solicit sex from a minor and attempted indecent liberties with a minor,” according to Chesterfield Police.

Fuller, 50, was arrested as part of a sting operation, wherein undercover detectives posed as minors on the Internet.

In a university-wide email, VCU President Eugene Trani said the university is cooperating with Chesterfield Police. Fuller has been placed on administrative leave without pay, Trani wrote, and the university is taking “aggressive action” to address the issue.

In a meeting this morning, university administrators called a meeting to inform the campus police department employees and officers. Fuller, who lives in Henrico County, was well-liked and “was on good terms with other agencies,” says a source within the VCU Police department.

“It's a shock,” says the officer, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Trani named Captain Carlton Edwards as interim chief. Fuller is scheduled to appear in Chesterfield juvenile court his afternoon.
