Re: “Occupy Police Costs Rising: Now $31K

Glen Allen - There is a difference b/t speaking freely and violating ordinances (camping out in public parks after dark and essentially being squattors). Waving the banner of free speech isn't a ticket to just camp out in public areas that prohibit it. Now if the protestors were actually waving signs during daytime hours and not camping (or smoking or sleeping or playing on the internet or whatever else they are doing that they need tents for)- then yes, that is speech that may have a chance of being effective. Claiming that sleeping in tents and now in a suburban neighborhood (with the sole intent of harrassing the mayor to get their way) is free speech is laughable.

Why do I find these antics so offensive? It is because they claim to represent the 99%? Yeah right, the real 99% are responsible and work hard and better their lives and others EVERY day without need a special pat on their back for it. I do agree with your comment on what they expect the mayor to do. If they are supposed to be protesting corporate money in politics they they should be in DC protesting or protesting the state legislature. Lounging around the mayor's neighbor yard in tents is not a protest, sorry.

I completely agree that the mayor needs police observance. Occupy has taken their harrassment to a personal level. If these students camped out next to their professor's home to say use their free speech to strong-arm him into giving them a retest- they would be charged with harrassment. Their encampment next to the mayor is harrassment pure and simple. In their letter to the mayor they even said if they didn't get what they wanted (which still no one really knows what that is since they are all over the place and their vision statement doesn't match what they say) they would camp next door to him.

So yes, Occupy Richmond is directly responsible for all their nuisance costs. What a great job they are doing too in racking up costs.

Mr. Boone should be ashamed of manipulating this leaderless group to get publicity and causing a nuisance to his neighborhood.

As to your racist comments about the mayor's neighborhood - no wonder they are suspicious of the random comings and goings of the people hanging out on the lawn 24/7. Some of them may have the same attitude you do- hard for them not to have safety concerns.
