Re: “Video: Sacha Baron Cohen Gets Virginia Citizens Defense League President To Teach Toddlers How To Shoot "Bad Men"

Hi again Smoking Gun. If a reporter were to ask Van Cleeve about arming toddlers, and he said it was a good idea, said reporter would likely print that viewpoint. If I were to ask Van Cleeve the same, and he maybe thought I was a reporter, would the same answer then be false? FWIW: Newt Gingrich has been out of office since January of 1999. Would you argue that he's irrelevant to today's Republican Party?

Hi Smoking Gun - "An elderly man and some former politicians..." ?? Van Cleeve is one of the most visible and vocal advocates for more guns. Larry Pratt is the head of Gun Owners of America - a group that is - incredibly - more pro-gun than the NRA. Joe Walsh was once considered the most conservative member of Congress, and remains an influential voice for conservatives. These are important people in the gun rights movement. While you're right that police often had advance warnings of shootings (threats, behavior, history...) to say that they "...chose to stand down..." does them a horrible disservice. Say what you will about police and society, but I doubt the worst cop would turn a blind eye to a possible mass shooter. In most cases they're hamstrung by what the law allows them to do. "Oh, you beat up your wife and threatened to shoot her? Keep your gun." The data also does not back up your claim that many crimes are stopped by lawful gun owners. The "smoking gun" is the fact that these people had no qualms about endorsing a program to arm toddlers.

Polly Anna - a slew of people agreeing to help get toddlers more comfortable with the concept of carrying/using guns is hardly "much ado about nothing." To watch some of those same people condemning sexual identity and condoning spousal rape is not "much ado about nothing." It points - absurdly to be certain - a telling finger at the depth of depravity when it comes to selling guns.

Re: “Zero Tolerance, Zero Sense

Hi johnrichmond. We don't need an Ellis Island every 50 miles. We have wonderful facilities like McAllen, Texas. While you're right about our Central American policy, to lay it on the hands of one person, while convenient to those on the right, would be a false narrative. And I'm sure as Juan and Maria gathered their children in the middle of the night to flee the gang that was killing their neighbors, they crept across the mud floor of their shack to the trusty fire safe to grab their travel documents.
