Re: “Richmond Seeks to Open Up Its Process for Selling Property

Thank you, Paul. I've spent a lot of time disagreeing with you and disliking your posts in the past, so I genuinely appreciate your comment. Everyone CAN agree from time to time!

Re: “Richmond Seeks to Open Up Its Process for Selling Property

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Many years ago, I participated in a proposal to take over the old sports bar at Sixth Street Marketplace (I know, I know). At the time, Sixth Street was still trying to make a go, and we had quite the team. A coffeeshop/deli on the first floor, open from 6 am - 6 pm. A full service restaurant & bar on the second floor - Restaurant partner secured. Event space on the second & third floors, tied to the restaurant, but with VCU as an ongoing partner to also use it as gallery and exhibit space. Financing secure. Went so far as to meet with the City Manager. After almost 2 years, we were finally told, "We're holding out to hear from some national players. You know, like a Planet Hollywood or Hard Rock." I actually spit gum out on his desk (not my proudest moment). I think we all know what became of the Sixth Street Marketplace. It seems that the hardest lesson Richmond can't seem to learn is to get out of the way sometimes.

Re: “New Restaurant to Open in Curry Craft Space

It's been done, and contrary to the opinion of fanrat, it's been successful. Granted, it comes with a world-recognized chef in Grant Achatz, but Shami's could work.
