NORFOLK - After a year-long hiatus, Carnival is making its way back to Norfolk and bringing cruises to Cuba with it.

The Miami-based line announced Wednesday that it will deploy the $200 million refurbished ship Carnival Radiance to Havana, Cuba, as a port-of-call on its Oct. 18 and Oct. 25, 2020, trips.

Both the Radiance and remodeled ship Carnival Sunrise will be deployed from Norfolk for spring and fall Bahamas cruises.

The Radiance, which is undergoing a name change from Victory following the 38-day refurbishment in early 2020, will have one six-night and one five-night trip to the Bahamas. Two additional weeklong trips will include Havana in 2020.

The Sunrise, which will sail from Norfolk in 2019 after a similar renovation from its days as Triumph, will have two five-night and one six-night trip to the Bahamas in 2020.

The ships’ renovations include refurbished staterooms and “enhanced onboard experiences,” and the Radiance will have the first “at-sea version” of Big Chicken, Shaquille O’Neal’s Las Vegas-based restaurant, according to a Nauticus news release.

Norfolk was left out of Carnival’s 2018 program after the company sent its 4,000-passenger ship Horizon across the Atlantic Ocean instead of along the East Coast. That move caused Norfolk to miss out on $300,000 in cruise calls this year.
