Can't Live Without My LL

LL Cool J, you had me at "Radio" in 1984. I dug you back in the track suit, boombox, "Beat Street" days. Who didn't? You showed your softer side with "I Need Love." And didn't we all? But LL, you proved you weren't all slow jams. "Mama Said Knock You Out" kicked it. Damn! In the late '80s everyone wanted to "swing an episode" with you in their Jeep. But you proved you were more than those fly abs. 'Cause Ladies Love Cool James, aka James Todd Smith, you can act, too. Your skills go beyond clever lyrics and that tough, sexy delivery. But what I really give you props for is your ability to stick around. You've been here for 20 years. And you'll be on Brown's Island Aug. 4 for Fridays at Sunset. It would be real cool if you'd bring The Neptunes since they're from VA and produced your new album, "Todd Smith." Gates open at 5 p.m. with Guillotine X, Kia El'Amin and Roundtable Entertainment. Tickets are $25. Call (800) 594-TIXX or visit www.fridaysatsunset.com. S
