In the brutal restaurant business, a one-year anniversary is a milestone. has made it through the first year and will celebrate the accomplishment this Saturday, Jan. 27. The special dinner features a new menu and live music by Joshua Walker and Darrell Muller. Reservations can be made at 355-8558. Café Mandolin is located at 1309 W. Main St. The popular downtown lunch spot unveiled its winter menu, with items such as beef stew over pasta, vegetarian enchiladas and the restaurant's famous macaroni and cheese. 203 N. Foushee St. 648-3225. For the fifth year, offers its cooking class series with chef Jimmy Sneed, six consecutive Saturdays (Feb. 3-March 10). Each class focuses on an area of cuisine, followed by a discussion of appropriate food and wine parings. Sneed's press release says the classes have sold out in the past. For more information and to register, call 648-3764. Whether you're really busy or just really lazy, the Montana Gold Bread Co. in Carytown is doing you a big favor. No longer must you go somewhere else to find fixings to put on the bakery's delicious bread. Montana Gold is now serving eight of their own sandwiches — roast beef, ham, turkey, PB & J, veggie, tuna salad, chicken salad and grandma's pimiento and cheese — with a ton of toppings and dressings to throw on top.
