Built to Spill at the National

Led by frontman Doug Martsch, Built to Spill is responsible for some of the most resonant indie rock to come out of the '90s, imprinting its influence on such artists as Death Cab for Cutie and Modest Mouse. Matching plaintive pop songwriting with the waywardness of spaced-out guitar jams, the band has, if nothing else, demonstrated a respected consistency in its identity through the years. On the road supporting its latest full-length, “There Is No Enemy,” Built to Spill arrives at the National on Saturday, Oct. 9, at 8 p.m. $20-$25.  — Mike Hilleary
