Re: “Gov. McAuliffe Splices and Dices on the Green Front

Dear Gov. McAuliffe: please use both "climate change" and "natural gas pipelines" in a complete sentence. Any sentence. Maybe even just talk about both of these things in the same room, like the rest of the country/world is doing at the moment.

Re: “Activists Block Dominion Office

Just so the folks are clear, when you hear people protesting fossil fuels and advocating for renewable energy instead - they aren't against having heated homes. lol. It's almost ridiculous to have to point this out, because it should be obvious - we are saying what the world's scientists are saying, that we must switch to renewables to power our world or else risk more devastating irreversible effects of climate change. I know it's hard to look something that big in the eye, because it means actually thinking about the world when we are no longer here, what we will leave behind for the next generation. That is hard for people to think about. We are always so focused on now. But time doesn't stop. Your children and grandchildren will be facing even greater risk than we do now. Virginia in particular needs to stand up in this critical moment. Our coastal communities in Tidewater are second only to Louisiana coasts in vulnerability to sea level rise. We saw what happened in New Orleans in 2005. We don't want to see the same thing happen here to our families and homes in Norfolk and Virginia Beach. Dominion needs to be singled out for their inaction and continued investment in things like natural gas and nuclear, both dangerous risky infrastructure that are nowhere near the job creators that solar could be. Also, not only is the Tidewater area home to over 1.7 million people - it supports industries that are vital to the Commonwealth and country as a whole. As Virginians, we can no longer afford to separate our concept of a strong Virginia economy with a sustainable environmentally sound energy policy. They are both connected, they are one and the same.

Re: “Mayor Attempts to Shift School Debate

It's not about having beautiful buildings. It's about having basic maintenance needs met. Do you think a child in a school that has ceiling tiles falling, having to dodge leaks and listen to the sound of black water dripping in your classroom, you don't think somewhere in the back of your mind is reinforced the myth that people of poverty, people of color are less than? And then your mother, grandmother, sister, brother, uncle are forced to stand in the sweltering heat and exposed to the elements outside lockup while they wait for the GRTC? And somewhere in that child's mind they don't think if my city, my teachers, the adults who are supposed to look out for me in this world, don't find me worthy, then do I find myself worthy? If they don't value me and my education, then why should I? This is all connected.

Re: “Self-Service

Karma, please don't put someone's name in quotations. It's dehumanizing. And rude.

Ellen, I look forward to seeing your work up close at Taza's :)
