Re: “Commentary: Go Slowly, Here Comes the Pulse

I have to take exception to your comments about Richmonder's being adverse to using mass transit. Well, it's because our only option is a bus. Isn't it ironic that Richmond had the first electric street car system in the entire United States? You could go all the way to Ashland on that thing. You could ride all through central Richmond, out to Forest Hill Park and beyond. Guess who talked Richmond into tearing up the tracks and burning the street cars? You guessed it, GRTC, who sold Richmond a bill of goods and promised better service than the street car lines. Wouldn't it be nice to have those tracks now and to have expanded the system over the years to reach further and further out into the suburbs? Most major cities have light rail systems reaching far out. Even our close neighbor Norfolk put in a system and one day it will reach all the way to Virginia Beach. But no, Richmond is bus dependent and it won't take you all the way to where the majority of Richmonder's live now....Short Pump and Midlothian. If it does at all, it's very limited service. And how many people need the so called rapid bus from Rockett's Landing to Willow Lawn? If I want to get on at Willow Lawn to ride downtown, where do I park? Do I drive into the shopping center and take the parking spot of someone who might actually shop there? To the writer of this article, you seemed to skip right over the fact that Richmond is totally bus dependent for mass transit and buses get stuck in the same traffic jams with everybody else. For the record, I ride the Gaskins Express #29 to downtown to work. I pay $2 cash each way because buying a one day pass cost $4.50. Why would I give the bus company a extra 50 cents per day? GRTC can't make it easy and allow me to buy a rechargeable card that would deduct a even $2 per ride. Nothing GRTC does makes it easy. Some mornings there is a nice big motorcoach available to ride on. One like you would ride on if you were on a big tour trip. Other mornings the bus arrives looking like it's in need of much repair. It's the same old bus you might see on a normal downtown route. In other words, service even on a long commute express line is sketchy at times. Richmond should have never spent what they did on the Pulse and the weird traffic lanes it's going to create. A little more should have been spent and returned Richmond to the rails we enjoyed back in the day when Richmond was progressive and not held hostage by GRTC.

Re: “Opinion: It’s Time to Remove All of the Anti-LGBTQ Language from Virginia’s Law Books

I really don't think anybody is being denied a wedding cake. Go to another bakery if one turns you down. But to purposely go to where you know the owner has a deep religious belief and put them on the spot just to make a statement is plain wrong. That's what happened in the famous case I'm sure you're citing. They went from place to place just hoping to find one to turn them down. They found some young person in charge of a bakery who said no and all hell was fired at them just so a statement could be made. I think that's equally unfair Mr. Kutner but you'll never agree. But on day someone on your opposite side will turn up at one of your places and lets see how you treat them. I suspect it won't good.
