Monuments, statues and art works can not be moral or immoral. They are inanimate objects. Should the pyramid temples of the Aztecs be demolished because the Aztecs practiced human sacrifices? When we begin to apply moral standards to monuments of stone and bronze we fall into a trap. Perhaps the only untainted objects would be made by virgin monks or nuns who devote themselves to feeding the poor.

There are enough real problems in modern Richmond. I don't think having bicyclists turning around at a monument dedicated to the man who led the Confederacy to a crushing defeat is one of them.
