Best Richmond Country or Bluegrass Band

Readers' Pick

Honkytonk Heroes

Second Place: Jackson Ward

Third Place: Everwilde

Honkytonk Heroes (also a 1973 album by Waylon Jennings) covers country legends such as George Jones and Willie Nelson along with current Nashville kings such as Jason Aldean and Jake Owen. They stay busy: You can catch them playing gigs all across Virginia, including at Richmond International Raceway, Aylett Country Day School and Bush Park Campgrounds in Deltaville. A newer band, Jackson Ward mixes country hits from well-known artists such as Alan Jackson and Brad Paisley with original songs, such as "Goodbye Trouble (Drink by Drink)." Its first EP is due to be released this spring. Everwilde, a Chesterfield band formed in 2007, recently made the first round of the battle of the bands with winners playing the big Lockn Festival in Nelson County this fall. All three bands clearly know that country fans like to hear the hits.
