Look at the Web address — it says it all. Owner An Bui, himself a beer obsessive, has been showcasing the pleasure of beer varieties beyond the mainstream long before the craft beer movement got going. The restaurant is a two-time winner of the title No. 1 Best Beer Bar in the U.S. by CraftBeer.com, the website of the Brewer’s Association. Bui’s particular fancy is Belgian beer — he stocks more than 100 Belgian beers and overall, Mekong offers a whopping 200 varieties to choose from. Capital Ale House has three locations in town and outside Richmond. It can boast 52 taps and more than 100 varietes of bottles on its beer menu. Bui takes third place, too — he’s also the owner of the Answer Brew Pub. Expect as many choices here as you would at nearby Mekong, but the real draw is the varieties that he and head brewer Brandon Tolbert make on the premises.
