Keep Carytown weird! No wait, keep Carytown beastly! This year saw the inaugural RVA Krampusnacht, or Krampus walk, a costumed event dating back to pagan times in Europe celebrating the Christmas legend of Krampus. Costumed beasts walk the length of Carytown, accompanied by angels handing out treats, looking for children who’ve been bad to snatch into their sacks and whipping designated slaves along the way. Similar to the ever-popular Zombie Walk in Carytown around Halloween, this event takes place in early December, and usually ends up with the tired and sweaty beasts plopping down and stinking up local bars. We think the late Dave Brockie would approve.
