Best of Richmond

The winners of our annual readers’ poll of the best in Richmond.

Greetings and welcome to the annual Best Of readers’ poll.

While it may seem self-explanatory, the idea behind this issue is that for most of the year, our tiny editorial staff decides what the paper is going to cover. It seems only right that we should leave the biggest issue of the year for you, dear reader, to weigh in on some of your favorite things in Richmond. So we asked you to anonymously vote for your favorites and you did from May 1 to June 15.

As we still struggle to collectively emerge from the pandemic, things are just starting to get back to some semblance of normal for many. It can be a nice boost for a local business to be included here and especially to win a category in the Best Of issue. Those who have already won first place five consecutive times are designated with Hall of Fame status. So a big thank you to those who voted for favorites in the categories of goods and services, people and places, arts and culture, nightlife and dining.

The survey methodology: The 2021 Style Weekly Readers’ Poll was open to anyone with access to the internet and promoted through Style online, by word of mouth and across various social media. Entries were restricted to voters who registered online so that participants could only vote in categories once per account. Style reserved the right to discard votes for winners in inappropriate categories. Style advertising staff had no access to survey results until they were tabulated and finalized by the editorial staff. Profiles of the winners were written entirely by staff and two editorial freelancers and not seen by advertising staff until publication.

While some may not agree with all the winners here – that would be impossible with so many categories – that’s all the more reason to speak out and cast your votes next year. In the meantime, here are your 2021 winners. – the Editor
