In its 116th year, Baskervill has architectural work gracing much of Richmond, including Virginia Commonwealth University's Brandcenter expansion. Other examples are the West Hospital at VCU's Medical College of Virginia, which opened in 1941, and the 1903 Romanesque-style Temple Beth Ahabah on West Franklin Street. Baskervill also designed the Collegiate Aquatics Center, which features ultra-modern swimming pools that are used by private schools Collegiate and Trinity Episcopal and the Poseidon Swim Club in Chesterfield County. Besides downtown Richmond, Baskervill has offices in Northern Virginia and works in 37 states. The company has worked in Beijing, but concentrates on hotels, health care and corporate and academic buildings in the United States. Company president Bob Clark says Baskervill is well known locally because of its history and also because of its service model. "We don't go after projects, we go after relationships," he says. Baskervill also trends toward high technology design, such as building information modeling, the latest iteration that's taking design work from hand-drawn sketches to the 3-D virtual world.
