Best Greek Restaurant

Readers' Pick

First Place: Stella's

1012 Lafayette St.

Second Place: Crazy Greek

Third Place: Zorba's Restaurant

When Richmond thinks Greek, they think Stella Dikos — and rightfully so. Through the years and a succession of restaurants, eager diners have followed Stella to wherever she's cooking. A couple of customer favorites have become apparent. "The top two would be Stella's sautéed calamari with artichoke hearts, capers and sun-dried tomatoes, and the pikelia, a sampling platter of dolmas, pork souvlakia, spanikopita, tiropita and kreatopita," says daughter and co-owner Katrina Giavos, who also conceived of the popular community table. "I wanted to do it from the beginning, and people said it wouldn't work because this is Richmond. I said I was going to do it and make people like sitting here. Walk-ins sit next to strangers and make a new friend. It's lovely to see." As anyone who lives or works in the vicinity of the Crazy Greek will tell you, it's a worthy contender for second place. Despite a tiny parking lot off a busy street, its huge portions, low prices and friendly service keep regulars coming back. Even farther out is Zorba's, a stalwart on Broad Street for 20 years with satisfying food and a much improved décor since the renovation after a fire a couple of years ago.
