Second Place: Country Club of Virginia
Third Place: Kinloch Golf Club
The region’s best golf course is in Chesterfield County, off state Route 288 in Midlothian. That’s right, the city’s haughty Country Club of Virginia is No. 2. In other words, it came in second place. Independence Golf Club is a daily fee course designed by Tom Fazio, who’s a big-time and really awesome golf-course architect. The cottages are yellow with brick and white lattice, but their ugliness adds to the charm. And two years ago Golf World’s readers selected Independence as the third best public course in the country and No. 1 among public practice facilities. It’s where the real golfers go. Membership in Kinloch is invitation-only.
