When you’re shopping for a piece of compressed carbon, it’s sometimes hard to know what you’re looking for. Diamonds Direct wants to help. It bills itself as a diamond wholesaler, cutting out middleman markups on jewelry. The southeastern United States chain has had its Short Pump location for about five years now, and manager Dianne Gatto says about 90 percent of business is engagement and bridal rings. “We don’t have the same cookie-cutter rings that everyone’s able to find,” she says. “We have rings that fit people’s personalities.” Gatto also cites its lifetime free maintenance on purchases, as well as two jewelers on premise who also do outside repairs.
