Second Place: Fink's Jewelers

Third Place: Adolf Jewelers

Since 1897, the Schwarzschild family name has been synonymous with high-end jewelry and service. When Richmonders wanted something tasteful to celebrate an engagement, wedding, birth or holiday, they turned to Schwarzschild — which for years was centered near downtown at Second and West Broad streets. That store has long since closed and Schwarzschild is now owned by the Schiffman family of Greensboro, N.C. But its three area stores bearing the family name still maintain the upper-crust trade. Short Pump store manager Sam Spaulding, a 30-year jewelry industry veteran, says he's seeing more yellow gold coming back, along with engagement rings with diamonds trending around a larger stone. If it's Rolex you covet, the family-owned Fink's Jewelers has a selection to make your heart go pitter patter, and more. And with more than 50 years in Richmond, family-owned Adolf Jewelers is nothing less than an institution.
