What makes a good club DJ? Stacks of rare vinyl? Mad mixing skills? The topic never ceases to ignite a fierce debate. One thing most folks can agree on is that he or she must keep the party going no matter what. Rising in the charts from third place last year, Sharon Husbands of Babes fame reigns as voters’ choice for the top tune provider of Richmond nightclubs. “I really have to thank my supporters,” Ms. Husbands says. “Without my friends, I’m nothing.” She promises that huge things are coming to the scene and is considering whether to audition for the next season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” Pridefest and Nu Nightclub spinner Amy Alderman is ecstatic about her second-place prize. “I love what I do,” she says. “I get to share my love and passion for music.” Also pumping out the beats and winning over fans is DJ MASS FX, who gets props again this year for his bass-laden sets at Europa and other hot spots around town.
