Best Bicycle Nirvana

Richmond may have attracted international limelight in September with the UCI Road World Championships. But a much more lasting bike legacy is the Virginia Capital Bike Trail, which opened in the fall.

The 52-mile-long path, a $74 million project, links Richmond with the former state capital of Williamsburg. It offers safe and accessible space for biking, walking and running in one of the most historic and picturesque locations in the country. There’s ample parking along the path with several restaurants and a convenience store.

An added extra: For the UCI races, a group of Richmond-area artists painted murals on some buildings, adding even more verve to the route.
