Best Bartender

Readers' Pick

Becca Flaig

Lady N'awlins Cajun Café, the Halligan Bar & Grill

Second Place: Mattias Hägglund, Heritage

Third Place: Beth Dixon, Pasture

In previous Best of Richmonds, we separated the Best Bartender category by gender to make room for the women in a male-dominated field. Now they're combined, and it looks like the women are holding their own. And talk about a lady who knows how to sling a drink and have a hell of a good time doing it. Voters say multitasker extraordinaire Becca Flaig reigns supreme behind the bar. The secret to her success? "Always trying to have better hair than Jack Lauterback," Flaig says, poking fun at obsessively coiffed bar colleague Jack Lauterback, a columnist for Style. You want wisdom with your shooter? Ask her for some good dating advice while you're saddled up to her bar and you're guaranteed to get an entertaining answer. From classic to creative, concoctions by Heritage's Mattias Hägglund and Pasture's Beth Dixon tantalize your palette and garner your praise. Pay these folks a visit if you're into salted cherry foam, lavender honey or some habanero in your cocktail. Even better, they're friendly and knowledgeable, guiding you along to help you find what will please your palate.
