The Fur Ball is the Richmond SPCA’s major fundraiser, supporting its mission of caring for sick, injured and homeless animals. No lie, its popularity owes a lot to being able to bring your dog as your date. Chocoholic draws lots of fans too. Why go to a chocolate cocktail party for 700 at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts on a weeknight in February? Well, why not? But the simple answer is to eat, drink and make a difference for Family Lifeline. The 140-year-old organization works with families with young children, older adults and the disabled. “It’s an informal, lighthearted event with an intimacy that allows guests to get to know each other,” the group’s president, Amy Strite, says.
