Belle B, Musselducks, and Sausalitos

We love Italian food, we love a cheap date, and we're always trying to put the two together. So, as soon as we actually get dates, we'll ride over to Belle B in North Side.

Owner Lynn Lines and crew offer "Penny Pinching Pasta Night" Sunday through Wednesday. All you have to do is sit at the white-linen-covered table and admit to the server that you're a cheapskate, and they'll bring salad, pasta, and dessert for two and a bottle of wine, all for only 30 bucks. Got any other suggestions for cheap dinner dates? Send them in to tastemakers@styleweekly.com. We'd love to hear from you about this or any other ideas you have about dining around town.

It wasn't necessarily a cheap date destination, but it was a good one, especially for those in search of a place to toast smoke-free air. Musselducks — one of the weirdest-named restaurants in town, and one of the few smoke-free holdouts (except at the bar) — is now closed.

Downtown is blowing up, and all these new folks working and walking around down there need places to chow, so it's only a matter of time before restaurants like the new Sausalitos start moving in, too. The recently hatched breakfast and lunch spot is known for its creative sandwiches and crepes. Breakfast crepes offer ingredients from simple ham, egg and cheese to homemade whipped chive cheese with thin slices of smoked salmon. The sandwiches are interesting, too, and everything is surprisingly cheap. Open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. 213 E. Grace St. 788-7007.
