White Laces

Started in late 2010 by Ben Miller with the release of Tung’s “Sleeping” cassette, Richmond label Bad Grrrl Records is a do-it-yourself analog and digital distribution system for some of the city’s noisiest melody-makers. There is a distinct American punkness to the label’s releases that eschews the spit and polish of modern technology in order to present the bands in their unpolished prime. The label celebrates the anniversary of its analog birth Thursday, Oct. 9, with the release of a mix tape featuring local groups that it continues to champion. White Laces, Heavy Midgets, New Turks and Tung will perform their respective takes on pop, punk and roll as heard on the compilation, which also includes tracks by the Milkstains, Malatese and others. Doors open for the 18-and-older birthday party at 8 p.m. Admission is $5 and it includes a copy of the cassette while supplies last. strangematterrva.com.
