Re: “Island Grab

If the city can afford boondoggles like an NFL training camp, a huge tax bailout for the Altria Theater, and massive subsidies for an out-of-town brewery, it can damn well afford to maintain one damn island as a green space.

Re: “Update: Christmas Comes Early for Local Radio Station

Just exactly how many times DO we need to hear Mariah Carey sing "All I Want for Christmas Is You?"

(Answer: not so many that it needs to start October 30.)

Re: “Remaking Petersburg

It sure would have been nice to see a bit more of this enthusiasm for community artists before, not two years after, Sycamore Rouge had to close their doors.

Re: “Food Trucks Flame Out at Redskins Camp

According to the Times-Dispatch, "The Redskins reported an average of 10,986 fans per day at the facility, slightly up from last year’s 10,348." It would be nice if Style Weekly didn't let Mr. Baskerville's inaccurate estimate that attendance was down 50% go unchallenged. That's what journalists do, right?…

Re: “Speed Dreaming

Sometimes actors just get cast in roles because they're good. If a director as deliberate and skilled as Powell was making some sort of a statement about race, you would have known it.

Re: “Theater Mainstay Hands Over Reins of Triangle Players

I can't say enough about the work John Knapp, Phil Crosby, and Richmond Triangle Players have done to transform my perspectives toward sexual minorities. There is no more powerful way to change hearts and minds than by the simple telling of stories, and it has been my privilege to be a part of that. Through my work with RTP, my association with its community, and my time in its audience, I have become a friend, and ally, and an advocate for LGBTQ people and issues.

It is a testament to John that tears will be shed for his departure while muscles will be flexed to continue the work he has so powerfully and firmly established. We will be diminished by losing him, but we are empowered by the work he has done and the legacy he leaves behind. Thank God for John Knapp.
