Thousands of Gwar fans circled Lake Hadad on Friday to pay tribute to the band's former frontman and last original member, David Brockie, who died earlier this year of a heroin overdose.

The band gave Brockie's stage persona, Oderus Urungus, a Viking funeral. With bagpipes playing in the background, an archer fired a flaming arrow at a gasoline- and firework-filled boat carrying Brockie's Oderus costume. While the boat went up in flames, fans chanted in unison: "Oderus, Oderus, Oderus."

The public memorial served as a prelude to Gwar B-Q, the annual music festival the band holds at the public swimming lake.
