Re: “City Ramps Down Skate Park, Which Worries Skater Dudes

My husband and I live behind the park and have a little boy who loves skating. My husband (who also skates and is a professor over at VCU) and son love the skatepark and we are all very upset with the talk of it being torn down. It is such a positive influence in the neighborhood and we are all getting to meet lots of parents and kids who love it too. In fact, we know two families that border the skatepark (they live directly in front of it) and they support it wholeheartedly. We need a sign to remind the skaters to clean up after themselves and for parks and rec to open the bathrooms. The noise issue is kind of ridiculous because nearly everyday the weed wackers and lawn mowers parks and rec use to maintain the park are just as loud as any skaters. Skating has always had a bad rap as it is associated with 'rift raft' or's amazing exercise and provides kids with something positive to do! KEEP THE SKATE PARK!
