Re: “30th Anniversary Richmonders of the Year: The Ukrop Family

Well, of course! Congratulations and thank you to all the members of the Ukrop family - you're Very Richmond and we're very lucky!

Re: “As the Bicycle Turns

What perplexes me in this whole bike infrastructure plan is why are traffic circles an integral part of the plan when study after study shows that traffic circles are less safe for walkers and bikers? Also, why is the city trying to force bike trails onto roads that are not the most suitable - it's just asking for fatal accidents. Brookland Parkway is an example. While that's a good road in width - the newer bikes lanes are not illuminated - in the dark they are nearly impossible to see. Why weren't the lanes enhanced with glow-in-the-dark or lighted markers? And why cram in a bike lane on a relatively narrow street like Floyd? Aren't there other roads - non residential - where a major bike lane would make more sense? And bike paths on roads like River Road where there is absolutely no shoulder, no lighting, and blind curves? On the bike trail plans posted online, River Road was included. Seriously! We need connecting bike trails throughout the city - but we need them done correctly - not haphazardly. Everyone needs to be able to use the roads safely - walkers, bikers, drivers, and residents. In this case the perfect is not the enemy of the good - as close to perfect as possible will serve us all and keep us safe.

Re: “Color Them Impressed

Just please don't have any more murals with strange rainbows shooting out from the eyes - those are disturbing.

Re: “Caving In

Heartbreaking. While I don't have a child in Richmond City Schools, as a citizen I care about them. These children are our future. A school should be a beacon of hope. We should all be terribly ashamed of the conditions - ALL of us. No one has clean hands. Thank you Style for bringing us this story. Now, what do we need to do?

Re: “Material World

What a wonderful idea! I have been so impressed with the way Menokin has been handled. Another site worth seeing is Polegreen in Hanover. It's a modern structure frame over the building's foundation.

Re: “Outer Spaces

Are any of the artists VCU students or grads? If not, I think it would be great to employ them next time. We have one of the finest art schools in the nation that we should highlight at every opportunity.

Re: “Aesthetic Agendas

Please note that the statue of Thomas Jefferson: Architect of Liberty at the Virginia State Capitol was funded fully with private funds raised by the Virginia Capitol Foundation from three very generous philanthropic Virginia families - the Farrells, the Goodwins, and the Halseys.

No public funds were used for this public installation.
