ABC-TV's "Quarantine" on Saturday, Aug. 5, 8 p.m.

A dog for the dog days

Poor Harry Hamlin. He's been looking for a juicy role ever since "L.A. Law" went off the air. Odds are, even with the lead in ABC-TV's "Quarantine" (Saturday, Aug. 5, 8 p.m.) he still hasn't found one. If playing the president of the United States in a made-for-TV movie were to be Hamlin's big comeback, ABC wouldn't be airing the movie on a Saturday night during the dog days of summer.

In "Quarantine," the prez is forced to place himself under quarantine after a terrorist group unleashes a deadly virus that could wipe out the world. Starring with Hamlin is Nastassja Kinski.

The mysterious virus that has been released on a small village proves to be exceedingly deadly: It kills everybody who comes into contact with it. When he learns the plague could destroy the world's population, the president gathers the nation's top scientists, led by Dr. Galen Bronty (Kinski), and charges them with finding a cure. He then beats feet to an island in the Northwest and isolates himself so he can continue to govern the country from a safe zone. A bad situation gets even worse when one of his advisors — along with a stowaway terrorist — fails to honor the quarantine and lands on the island in a jumbo jet.

Meanwhile, here in River City, the dog days continue, and even Hamlin can't make them go
