ABC Board Denies Velvet Appeal

ABC Board upholds earlier decision to revoke Club Velvet's liquor license.

UPDATE: Sam Moore is closing strip club after ABC decision, attorney tells NBC 12.

Club Velvet has lost its first round of appeals to continue serving alcohol. The Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Board upheld an earlier decision to revoke the strip club's liquor license Wednesday. The board denied an appeal by the club's owner, Sam Moore, upholding Administrative Hearing Officer Clara A. Williamson's decision in February to revoke the liquor license of the Shockoe Bottom strip club after a lengthy, undercover investigation.

“The ABC Board affirms the decision to revoke Club Velvet's alcohol license,” the ABC says in a statement. “The Board issues this decision after thoroughly reviewing the transcripts, examining the evidence from the two-day initial hearing and listening to the oral arguments from each side at the appeal hearing.”

Moore has the option to appeal the decision in Richmond Circuit Court. During the appeals process, Club Velvet can continue serving alcohol.
