A Thank You to Our Readers and Contributors

As we say goodbye to a brutal 2020 and begin the new year with renewed hopes, we want to extend a big thank you to our loyal readers and advertisers. Some of you have been reading Style Weekly for four decades now while keeping us on our toes.

Print journalism has suffered an onslaught of cutbacks in recent years, but at its best, this publication still strives to be essential to our community through arts, culture and food coverage, as well as news and opinion.

Throughout this historic pandemic, with the hard work of a tiny but dedicated staff of three full-time editorial members and many freelancers, we continued to publish the print edition from home without missing an issue. We had a strong year at the Virginia Press Association statewide 2019 contest, taking home 44 awards, including 16 first-place honors and winning three of the top honors for our division: specialty news sweepstakes, advertising sweepstakes and grand sweepstakes.

The awards ceremony was canceled this year, but we are pleased to acknowledge our winners here with gratitude for their hard work and professionalism:

Amanda Dalla Villa Adams, Kate Andrews, Brent Baldwin, Paul Brockwell, Dana Elmquist, Scott Elmquist, Ed Harrington, Phaedra Hise, Laura Ingles, Hilary Langford, Toni McCracken, Peter McElhinney, Tom Nash, Karen Newton, Nathalie Oates, Jason Roop, Brandon Shuleeta, Edwin Slipek, Joel Smith, David Streever, Samantha Willis, Lori Waran, and Carol Wolfe.
