Re: “Interview: Legendary Saxman Maceo Parker Says It's All About The Love

Maceo has another history here in Richmond. In the 70s when Alpha Recording Studios was one of the best in the country. Fenderella Joyce Irby, (Klymaxx) convinced George Clinton to record at Alpha. (she worked and recorded there) on one or more recording date George had Maceo on the Mic recording Horn solos. On this particular day I was there and like his experience with Ray Charles it was just he and I in the recording room. I asked him about his solo on James Brown Cold Sweat he proceeded to take out his horn and play the Cold Sweat solo for me alone. One of the greatest days in my musical life. Ironically, we got to hang out together again two years later and I also taught his son 10 years later in NC at ECSU. An amazing musician and great guy. Re: “Architecture Review: The Eggleston Plaza Rejuvenates a Major Jackson Ward Intersection

I am pleased with the new structure.. did anyone mention the return of the Croakers Spot to Jackson Ward in this new building. As a former board member of the HJWA I want to say that the community has had many opportunities to see and discuss the plans for the future of Jackson Ward. We were very much involved in planning the revitalization of the Armory, which is now the Black History Museum. All of these investments and improvements to Richmond are going to help Richmond revive and thrive. There is a much to complain about, but so much more to be happy about. I remember downtown Richmond in the early 80's, as I look at it now I shake my head at the improvements and development... Yes, it's nowhere near perfect, but God knows it's better than it was 25 years ago. Now can we build a beautiful new Coliseum and a great new Baseball Park! I love Richmond.. I worked for Richmond Public Schools for close to 27 years and I was born here 65 years ago.
