Re: “Fur Flies Over Dog Park Rules

I am astounded at this verbal scuffle. If you look at the "likes" and "dislikes" underneath each comment, you'll see an amazing pattern of "liking" comments expressing outrage at the age change and a similar pattern of "dislikes" on comments supporting the park rules.

People: These are the park rules. The Board that makes the rules is an unpaid, volunteer board that holds regular meetings. You can contact the Board on their Facebook page. If you don't like the rules, get together and change them.

You can't go to an amusement park and argue that your kid is 1/2 inch under the ride height limit and has good motor skills so should be fine to ride. The rule is set. And you paid to get into that place.

At the rate this is going, Barker Field could easily become a members only park. It's been talked about before. Then these arguments would be nil.

And for the record, you don't have to have a kid to know what is dangerous for a kid. I work in counseling. I have seen enough dumb parents in my lifetime to realize that.

If you want to get your kid hurt, fine. But don't you dare blame it on the park, the dogs, the dog owners or the Board. You've been warned in every way possible.

Re: “Fur Flies Over Dog Park Rules

@TANSTAAFL: Are you aware that none of the board members on the Friends of Barker Field Board get paid?

Is anyone aware of how frustrating it is to repeatedly see children in an area specified for dogs when the rules very clearly state "no kids under ..."? I can understand that people would want to make the dog park a family experience. That makes complete sense. But whether these dogs are properly socialized or not, they are often engaged in pack behavior and will run large groups without care to anything in their way. ADULTS get knocked around by this. This is NORMAL dog behavior. Should we ask the dogs not to get excited? " Hey there Sparky. You've got to calm down. A kid just entered your play area." No.

And yes, people are irresponsible about watching after their dogs while at the park. They bring animals who have not been fixed into the park. That causes a major problem. And that needs to stop. Those rules need to be strongly enforced, too.

There are multiple issues in play here, not just the issue with kids. I personally think that the rules should be enforced with more appropriate ambassadorship than yelling and screaming. The Park has a certain budget, but is largely dependent on donations to make improvements to the park.

Does everyone like the new signs? The new benches? The raised fences and better drainage? The fresh mulch? Yeah. This current Board made all of those improvements.

Respect the rules for your sake and the sake of your child. Spay and neuter your dogs or keep them out of the park. Get off of your cell phone or put down that cigarette and stop your dog from humping other dogs. It's aggravating to the other dogs and can start fights.

Be responsible and stop crying.
