I live on Floyd at Auburn. Like poguemahone, I support the current plan much less enthusiastically than the original plan. Traffic diverters, speed bumps and stop signs had the potential to truly reduce traffic and thus make Floyd more hospitable to bike travel. Without these features, auto traffic will not be slowed or reduced, and as the Style reporter noted, may actually increase traffic volume and speed. Deleting these features eviscerated the plan. When the plan was presented to the Planning Commission, several fan residents argued convincingly against replacing stop signs with circles and curb bump-outs because the loss of stop signs will likely increase traffic and speed, and introducing the circles and bump-outs will cause the loss of critical parking. I strongly support their position and believe that there should be no circles added nor stop signs removed east of Boulevard. Large circles are aesthetically pleasing and may slow traffic, so I support adding circles at the proposed intersections in the Museum District. I also support adding signage along the length of Floyd Ave to promote bike usage and safety, reducing and enforcing the speed limit, and retaining all stop signs and traffic signals.
