Re: “Update: Seat Donors Respond to Byrd Theatre Decision

@kazoo, jj555, and anyone who commented about ticket prices. The distributors of the films are paid on a percentage basis, so the more money you take in, the more you pay them, and while the profit would increase, so will our admissions tax and finally, none of that money goes to the Foundation, so it won't help the seat situation at all. We love our patrons, but RS is right, if you want to help...donate.

Re: “Byrd Theatre May Be Getting New Seats From Cannes

@Terry, nobody thinks that this will be a permanent solution....but we are still years away from a final restoration effort. @Chis- The seats are red/burgundy, not pink....the color has been distorted by the flash. @Noah...we are way past the point where recovering the existing seats will help.....first there are hardware pieces which break that haven't been made since 1938 and both the width and the row spacing contribute to the current level of discomfort. Ultimately, the restored seats will be like the sample we have displayed in the outer lobby....they will resemble the 1928 seats in almost every respect, but the only original part will be the end caps...the rest of the components are contemporary, easily repairable and replaceable parts....and yes, they will have cup holders, @preservation.
