Re: “The 2017 Richmond Power List: Arts & Culture

I just happened upon this piece published today, Aug 30, 2017, from CNN entitled "Chain Smoking Children." Here is a quote and the link. "Of the big six global tobacco companies, Phillip Morris International dominates the market in Indonesia, according to 2013 data from the Tobacco Atlas. The company did not respond to a request for comment."

http://www.cnn.com/2017/08/30/health/chain…

They tobacco industry still spends millions to addict children around the world.

So I'd like to ask RVA's art community how does it feel to profit from the Altria's blood money? BTW the irony of Kathryn Fessler title of Director of Corporate Citizenship is epic.

Re: “The 2017 Richmond Power List: Arts & Culture

It is incredible that someone from Altria, a peddler of disease and death, is praised in this list. Maybe they should be listed for having power in RVA since they convinced the arts community to accept their blood money. Accepting money from Altria for anything other than tobacco related disease treatment and nicotine addiction treatment and prevention is immoral. You cannot rationalize taking money from a company that sells a product that has and continues to cause disease and death throughout the world. Don't compare it to any other product as there is no safe limit. So go at it RVA and sell yourself out and in another 100 years you will have some other monuments you need to push down.

Re: “Driving Dwight

A credible threat against Mayor Jones would constitute a reason for a security assignment until the threat was resolved. If there is no threat, there is no reason he should have security assigned to him. What could possibly be the rationale to justify such an expense? Other than Doug Wilder, is there any precedence for a Mayor of a small city with a population just over 200,000 to have such a security detail? I also do not understand why he needs a driver. I am almost sure that there is not a single elected or non-elected official in the surrounding jurisdictions that has a driver. Does Mayor Jones have a handicap that he cannot drive for himself? I ask that in all sincerity, as I cannot imagine that such a minor elected official would feel they are due such a convenience. Thanks StyleWeekly for keeping this issue alive
