Re: “Remembrance

Thanks Carol. Once again your words have much strength. I can only imagine the heartache Chris and Diane are going through. This family has stood up to much and their girls are testimony to wonderful parents.

Re: “Class Clowns

I have great hope in a new school board coming on. This one has been extemely disappointing, except for Kim Gray. She continues to be the only one who understands her role as a school board member.

I am dumbfounded that the current board totally ignored the recommedations from a committee with such pedigree. Ugh

Re: “Missing the Bus: Transit Issues Vex Charter School

While the charter school may have many growing pains none of them should be on the shoulder of a child with a disability or their family. The only reason Mrs. Gaudalupe's daughter is not being transported by Wm Byrd (the contractor) is because she has a disability. What kind of message is PH sending? Could it be that choice of school is only for those who can afford to transport their child? I hope not. Every child in Richmond should have the opportunity no matter there families means. Otherwise it is yet another form of discrimmination!

Re: “Gray’s Area

Redistricting the 2nd will reverse the diversification of the 2nd. I don't understand. This to me is a step backwards. The city will then have "black" districts and "white" districts".............Really!! Let's not forget that Gray won the majority white district by a landslide.

As a parent of 2 students in Middle School, I am thankful to have Gray's voice, a true voice of the people of her district.

Re: “Schools Fail at Special Needs

I completely disagree with the Pardue’s. My son has received special education services in RPS’s for 13 years. The first few years had some bumps in the road but a change in Special Education Director led to a huge change in attitude and expectations for my son and all the students with disabilities in Richmond Public Schools. If you aren’t seeing this then you are choosing to not see it but I promise you it is there. There are always a few bad apples but to say an entire system is broken is irresponsible.

As a parent advocate, I have attended hundred’s of special ed meetings in many localities over the years and am forever thankful that my son is in Richmond Public Schools. So the next time you decide to condemn an entire system you need a little more meat than what you brought to this article.
