Re: “Crowded Out

It doesn't seem to me like Mr. McCormack is a racist. However I can only conclude that the majority of people in the city, the types of patrons these types of businesses are seeking are. I otherwise cannot contemplate how multiple types of clubs/bars/restaurants could not coexist in this downtown neighborhood. The perception that Shockoe Bottom is any more dangerous than any other neighborhood is a foolish one. The race lines are always drawn in Richmond. The clubs in the bottom are "black clubs" and the bars on the slip are "white bars", right? Until we learn to enjoy each others company this city and this neighborhood isn't going to progress further.

Re: “Overplayed

As far as I can tell part of the Squirrels success here has been due to their openness to the opinions and suggestion of their fans. If the fans were vocalizing disgust or simply not attending I get the impression the ownership would listen. Though some of us may be there to just enjoy the game, it should be clear that there is a generational gap between what youth today seek in entertainment and what older baseball fans enjoy. I imagine you don't turn on the TV and see the same type of shows you saw 20 or even 10 years ago. Thus far the Squirrels have done a good job of tapping into this changing demographic and if they continue to do so I think it will be great for baseball in this city. If you can't get down with that, then I say "too bad".
