After 13 years in the business, Lucky 13 now has plenty of company in Richmond’s tattooing field, as well as clients who are always up for some new ink. “It’s become almost a Picasso on your body these days,” says Brad Buehrle, owner of the parlor, which also offers piercing. New kinds of ink and needle grouping means that tattoos stay still (none of the grotesque stretching of the old styles) and brighter than before. Most popular are tattoos memorializing family members or pets, or designs found on Instagram and Pinterest, says Rory Lucas, front desk receptionist. Our favorite story? The 87-year-old woman who wanted to replicate her husband’s Sailor Jerry tat. She’s been back every birthday since for a new one, Buehrle says.
