Date of Incident: Sunday, January 3, 2016

Name of Victim: Quincey C. Broadnax

Age: 36

Location of Incident: 3800 Block of Midlothian Turnpike

Description of Incident:

Sunday at approximately 2:18 a.m., officers were called to the 3800 block of Midlothian Turnpike for the report of a shooting.

Officers arrived and found a male, Quincey C. Broadnax, 36, of the 1000 block of Kingswood Street, in a rear yard of an apartment complex suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital where on Sunday he succumbed to his injuries.

Name of Victim: Djan R. Robinson

Age: 36

Location of Incident: 1000 Block of Highland View Avenue

Description of Incident:

At approximately 6:12 a.m., officers were called to the 1000 block of Highland View Avenue near Veranda Avenue for a report of a person down. Djan R. Robinson, 36, of Richmond, was found lying in the roadway suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Name of Victim: Mark Jackson-Silver

Age:19

Location of Incident: 6500 Block of Midlothian Turnpike

Description of Incident:

Shortly before 1 a.m. on January 7, officers responded to the 6500 block of Midlothian Turnpike for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they located Mark Jackson-Silver, 19, of the 1300 block of Jennie Scher Road, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Arrest Made January 7, 2016:

Alvin L. Ruffin, Jr, 25, of the 1200 block of East Marshall Street, was arrested January 7 on a charge of shooting in the commission of a felony. Yesterday, he was charged with voluntary manslaughter.

Date of Incident: Monday, January 18, 2016

Name of Victim: Jerquell Cheatham

Age: 21

Location of Incident: Illusions Night Club, 6300 Block of Midlothian Turnpike

Description of Incident:

At approximately 1:00 a.m., shots were fired inside the club located in the 6300 block of Midlothian Turnpike. Several RPD officers, working off-duty there, entered the club and discovered the body of Jerquell Cheatham, 21, of the 700 block of Everett Street. He had been shot.

Officers identified two others who were injured; a male with a gunshot wound, and a female who had been struck by a car in the club parking lot. Both persons were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Arrest Made January 19, 2016:

Trevell A. Harvey, 27, of the 2400 block of 3rd Avenue, was arrested this morning in a joint effort by Henrico County Police and the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force. He was taken into custody without incident and charged with use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Name of Victim: Ericelle C. Coleman

Age: 27

Location of Incident: 3000 Block of Moss Side Avenue

Description of Incident:

At approximately 10:12 p.m. on January 27, officers responded to a call for random gunfire in the 3100 block of Richmond-Henrico Turnpike. When they arrived, officers quickly located Ericelle C. Coleman, 27, of the 3000 block of Moss Side Avenue, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital late Monday night.

Date of Incident: Wednesday, February 3, 2016

Name of Victim: Richard Burton

Age: 58

Name of Victim: Velda L. Garner

Age: 57

Locations of Incidents: 1800 Block of Heckler Street and 2400 Block of Burton Street

Description of Incident:

At approximately 7:57 a.m. on February 3, officers responded to the 1300 block of East Cary Street where they found Richard Burton, 58, of the 1800 block of Heckler Street in Henrico County, suffering from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the manner of death suicide.

Investigation of that incident led detectives to conduct a welfare check on Mr. Burton’s girlfriend. At 6:24 p.m. yesterday, officers responded to the residence in the 2400 block of Burton Street. Inside they located the body of Velda L. Garner, 57, of the 2400 block of Burton Street, who had suffered an apparent gunshot wound.

Date of Incident: Tuesday, February 9, 2016

Name of Victim: Veka “Shawn” Chham

Age: 30

Location of Incidents: 5748 Thorndale Lane

Description of Incident:

At approximately 9:52 p.m., officers were called to 5748 Thorndale Lane for a report of a shooting. Officers arrived and located two males in the residence that were suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

The homicide victim, Veka “Shawn” Chham, 30, of the 300 block of South Dearing Avenue, Fresno, California, was located in an upstairs room. He was transported to a local hospital where he died.

The other male, Akeem J. Williams, 30, of the 300 block of East 11th Street, Richmond, was found dead on the first floor of the building.

The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of the deaths.

Detectives are investigating this incident as being possibly drug-related. The investigation continues. Detectives have initially categorized it a homicide (Chham) and a death investigation (Williams). Detectives are collecting evidence and speaking to neighbors and are working strong leads in this case.

Date of Incident: Monday, February 15, 2016

Name of Victim: Latrice Walden

Age: 3

Location of Incidents: 3900 Block of Chamberlayne Avenue

Description of Incident:

At approximately 4:38 a.m. on Monday, February 15, officers were called by the Richmond Ambulance Authority to the 3900 block of Chamberlayne Avenue for a call of a child who was unconscious but breathing. The child, Latrice Walden, 3, of the 5800 block of Orcutt Lane, died from her injuries after being transported to a local hospital.

Detectives from the Major Crimes unit responded to investigate the suspicious death and charged Danielle L. Turner, 24, of the 3900 block of Chamberlayne Avenue, with felony child neglect. Additional charges are pending in connection to the death of Walden.

Name of Victim: Cory J. Holmes

Age: 39

Location of Incidents: 2900 block of Chamberlayne Avenue

Description of Incident:

At approximately 3:05 a.m., RPD officers were called to an apartment complex in the 2900 block of Chamberlayne Avenue for a report of a man down. In an interior hallway, they found the body of Cory J. Holmes, 40, of the 1300 block of Coalter St. He had been shot multiple times.

Inside a nearby apartment they found a woman, Marquetta Y. Harris, 39, of the 2900 block of Chamberlayne Ave., who had been shot multiple times. She was transported to a local hospital where she died. They also found a pre-school age child in the apartment who was uninjured.

Case Status:cleared

Arrest Made February 23, 2016:

Dennis Moore, 36, of the 1900 block of Accommodation Street, was arrested and charged with breaking and entering and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Both charges are felonies. He turned himself in this afternoon at Richmond Police Headquarters.

Name of Victim: Nathaniel A. Bullock

Age: 26

Location of Incidents: 3000 block of Chamberlayne Avenue

Description of Incident:

At approximately 7:12 a.m., RPD officers were called to an apartment complex in the 3000 block of Chamberlayne Avenue for a report of a man down. They found Nathaniel A. Bullock, 26, of the 3000 block of Chamberlayne Avenue, lying in the parking lot. He had been shot in the head. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:41 a.m.

RPD detectives have spoken to witnesses who say they heard a loud argument followed by several gunshots.

Arrest Made: February 26, 2016

Miquel D. Olivis, 24, of the 400 block of Newbridge Terrace in Henrico County, was arrested without incident and charged with first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Both charges are felonies.

Name of Victim: Thomas Jones

Age: 54

Location of Incidents: 1307 N. 29th St.

Description of Incident:

At approximately 8:19 p.m., officers were called to 1307 N. 29th St. for a report of a person down. Officers arrived and found Jones inside the residence suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.

Detectives are investigating. No signs of forced entry were apparent.

Date of Incident: Monday, March 7, 2016

Name of Victim:Clemente Jimenez Lopez

Age: 34

Location of Incidents:1400 block of Armfield Road

Description of Incident:

At approximately 2:12 a.m., RPD officers were called to the 1400 block of Armfield Road for a report of a person down. Officers arrived and found Lopez down and unresponsive in the parking lot of the apartment complex suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

1800 block of North 29th Street

Description of Incident:

The victim was shot shortly before 11:00 p.m., yesterday, inside another residence in the 1800 block of North 29th Street. The shot was fired from outside the residence.

Name of Victim:Chantel Norville

Age:25

Location of Incidents:

3900 block of Larchmont Lane

Description of Incident:

At approximately 2:08 a.m., RPD officers were called to the 3900 block of Larchmont Lane, near Midlothian Village, for a report of random gunfire. When they arrived a minute later, they were unable to find any victims or determine the exact location of the shooting. Minutes later, they received a call for assistance at the Circle Shopping Center on Hull Street. In the parking lot, they located two shooting victims inside a car.

One victim, Chantel Norville, 25, of Henrico County, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim, a male in his twenties, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

RPD detectives have determined both persons were shot in the 3900 block of Larchmont Lane then drove to the Circle Shopping Center where they called for help.

Name of Victim:Chad P.Dermyer

Age: 37

Location of Incidents: Greyhound Bus Station 2910 North Blvd.

Description of Incident:

Trooper Chad P. Dermyer was fatally shot when he encountered James Brown III, of Aurora, Illinois on March 31, 2016, during a training exercise at a bus station in Richmond, Va. Dermyer had engaged Brown in a brief conversation at about 2:40 p.m. before Brown pulled out a Beretta 40-caliber, semi-automatic handgun from the waist of his pants and began shooting the trooper several times.

Two plainclothes state troopers began firing at Brown. He was taken into custody and transferred to the VCU Medical Center.

Two women inside of the terminal at the time of the shooting suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Case Status: Cleared

Date of Incident: April 3, 2016

Name of Victim: Brian E. Szabo

Age: 55

Location of Incidents: 100 block of Westmoreland Street

Description of Incident:

At approximately 2:11 a.m., officers were called to the 100 block of Westmoreland Street for the report of a person down.

Officers arrived and found Szabo in the residence. He had suffered an apparent stab wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Case Status: Cleared

Arrest made on April 3, 2016

The male arrested at the scene has been identified as Nigel E. Walker, 26, of the 100 block of Westmoreland Street. He has been charged with murder.

Detectives believe the incident stemmed from an argument with Walker who then fled the house. A few hours later, at approximately 5 a.m., Walker returned to the scene and surrendered to officers.

Name of Victim: Herbert L. Brown

Age: 32

Location of Incidents: 200 block of N. 8th St.

Description of Incident:

At approximately 2:44 a.m., RPD officers were called the 200 block of N. 8th St. after receiving a report from a bystander that shots had been fired in the area.

In the driver’s seat of a vehicle parked beside the curb was the body of Herbert L. Brown, Jr., 32, of the 6000 block of Claypoint Road, Chesterfield. He had been shot.
