Who says there's nothing to do during winter? It might be freezing outside, but don't let the cold lock you in. Cheer yourself up in the dead of winter with a Gourmet Tour de France. Part of the 2002 International Wine Program at the Jefferson Hotel, the menu features five French dishes and four fine wines.

This gives Richmonders an opportunity to experience why France is still considered the world leader in food and wine, says Lemaire Sommelier Steve Fox. It's a celebration of French cuisine.

Louis Latour Meursault-Blagny, Adam Cremant d'Alsace Brut and Premier Cru 1996 will be among the wines served with dinner. Not only will event participants feast on consomme de canard, sorbet aux peches and creme de Calvados, but they'll learn about what they're eating when food experts step up to instruct.

Listen as Executive Banquet Chef Lonny Huot speaks about the evening's dishes. And learn as Terence Shiple, director of French wine imports for The Country Vinter, presents each wine. Together, Hout and Shiple will be on hand to discuss the wine and food pairings, making the event not only delicious, but educational.

If you want to attend the Tour, you'd better make your reservations early. Fox said a recent event at The Jefferson sold out, with a waiting list, so don't wait too long or you'll be left out in the cold.
