It’s fair to say that Richmond musician Lucy Dacus is having a good year. Rolling Stone magazine named her one of the 10 Artists You Need to Know. NPR’s Bob Boilen placed her at the top of his personal musical discoveries for 2016. And that was all before her first album, “No Burden,” dropped in February to critical acclaim. Those who caught her Friday Cheers appearance alongside Kurt Vile know what we’re talking about.
Speaking with Style Weekly earlier this year, Dacus chalked her good fortune up to hard work and good vibes. And now she can add another notch to her musical belt after her announcement of a deal with Matador Records via Facebook this week. Not too shabby for someone who graduated from Maggie Walker just three years ago.
In an interview with FADER, Dacus gave an in-depth preview of her upcoming plans. For those that missed it the first time around, there’s a vinyl reissue of “No Burden” planned for the fall. Those making the pilgrimage from River City to Lollapalooza in July will also be able to catch Dacus on stage, an idea she describes as unbelievable.
