Red Clay River at the Camel

Saturday, April 10.

Roanoke's Red Clay River twists deeper into its Southern gothic roots sound with “Ain't No Blues.” The album is a hypnotic grind through hell, with Dan Bivens' vocals dredging up enough gravel, booze and smoke to sound like the devil himself. Aaron Parker's sinister, caterwauling guitar solo drives it home. “Stompin'” starts with a whispered narrative and morphs into a pounding dirge. “Fall Like the Devil” is a slow hymn about doubt, Camellia Delk's fiddle and vocals adding a lovely, melancholy anchor. Hear the group live when Red Clay River performs with Tim Barry and Julie Karr at the Camel on Saturday, April 10 at 8 p.m.,
