Indeed vinyl has risen from the ashes to reclaim its throne as the preferred means of music acquisition in the physical world. Saturday, April 19, is Record Store Day, with vinyl sellers all over the world celebrating its return with specialty releases and reissues on the sound storage medium in the form of flat polyvinyl chloride. Nearly all of Richmond’s music retailers (Plan 9 Records, Steady Sounds, Deep Groove, BK Music, Vinyl Conflict, Turnstyle and Memory Lane) will participate with deals, giveaways and performances. WRIR DJs should be spinning at various locations and playing bingo; the Orwells will perform at Plan 9 Richmond at 3:30 (the Charlottesville store features classic ’60s rockers the Zombies at 12:30 p.m.) with the Skaters at 5 p.m. For information on releases and more events on Record Store Day, visit each store’s website or go to recordstoreday.com.
