Contributing Editor Peter Galuszka broke the news last week (and follows up in this week's issue on Page 13) that Virginia officials were proposing to take over the financially troubled Port of Richmond, saying they could give the city-owned port an infusion of state money and generate local jobs. As far as I understand, the historical reason the city held onto the port was because if they didn't, the state would have neglected it and not pushed for the funds to keep the river dredged. If this happens, let's hope it doesn't mean less traffic at the port. — Port of Richmond fan, April 23, 9:15 p.m.

Sounds like something the big boys should really look into. They will probably want to spend a few hundred thousand dollars on a two-year study first though.
